Incorporated in 1974, the Oklahoma Hotel & Lodging Association is Oklahoma's trade association for the lodging industry. The OH&LA actively provides operational, educational, technical, marketing and communications support, as well as legislative representation on behalf of Oklahoma's entire lodging industry. The OH&LA is a state partner of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the voice of the $122.7 billion lodging industry, employing more than 1.8 million hotel property workers.

Our mission is to promote good will in the hospitality industry; provide programs of education and recognition to improve professionalism and the quality of services for guests; provide information to the membership on matters of government which relate to the hospitality fields; and establish programs which will be helpful to the membership in purchasing, marketing and in areas of general cooperation for the benefit of the industry and the public.

OH&LA is pleased to offer CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification! Offered in partnership with Hospitality Comp, this course is designed to give hospitality companies and their associates the confidence to respond to life-threatening emergencies with skills that may save the life of a guest or fellow employee. Monthly training classes are offered in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Odyssey de Culinaire will set sail with the first dinner in Oklahoma City on Thursday, July 30th at Gaillardia Country Club. The second dinner will occur in Tulsa on Thursday, August 13th at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center.  These benefit dinners have a unique spin that creates collaboration among five chefs from Oklahoma City and five chefs from Tulsa.  Each group will treat the other city to an incredible six-course meal.  The chefs will be assisted in their meal preparation by high school students who are currently active in ProStart® schools in Oklahoma. Starting April 3, 2009, employers must use the new version of the Department of Homeland Security's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Rev. 02/02/09). The Department of Homeland Security also has issued a revised Handbook for Employers to be used with the new Form I-9. The new Form I-9, among other things, narrows the list of acceptable documents to show identity and work authorization and eliminates the use of expired documents. All employers are required to complete and retain a Form I-9 for each employee hired after November 6, 1986 to show that the employee is authorized to work in the United States. Additionally, the employer must re-verify documents for any employees whose work authorization documents are expiring.

This eight-minute video can be downloaded and then played via your computer to your managerial staff, educating them on the many threats card check poses to the U.S. lodging industry.  Presently, legal recognition of a union is achieved through secret ballot elections, in which each worker decides whether or not to support a union in the privacy of the voting booth.

Help the American Hotel & Lodging Association defeat card check legislation.  Circulate this ad to all of your member companies and let them know what we are doing to educate the public about the real purpose of the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act" and to defeat this ill-conceived legislation when union leadership presses for another vote in 2009. You are an essential component in this effort, as we need our members to bring this to your legislator's attention via writing letters and backing the ad campaign.
