The Oklahoma Chapter of Women in Lodging (OKWIL) is a joint initiative between AH&LA and OH&LA. This industry-wide forum is exclusively for Oklahoma’s female hospitality professionals and offers an opportunity to gain career momentum. The key focus for OKWIL is long-term careers, professional development of women in lodging through mentoring and promoting long-term careers in hospitality for women through continued education, and enhancing professionalism and success through networking. Members of WIL come together to focus on removing barriers and providing solutions to some of the challenges that women face, through mentoring opportunities, workshops, best practices, and community outreach initiatives. It’s also a place to explore women’s role in advocacy and getting engaged and involved in the role of government.

OKWIL is a community open to all members designed to ensure women have the same professional opportunities as their male counterparts.  With two-thirds of all hospitality management positions held by men, this segment is in need of everyone’s attention. OKWIL membership gives you prime access to high-powered women who empower women.

With more than 2,000 members strong, AH&LA's WIL membership is FREE to all women employed at an AH&LA Partner State Association member lodging property, regardless of your position within the company. Once your property has joined AH&LA WIL, contact OH&LA to confirm chapter membership.

All those wishing to join will need their AH&LA Member ID. Not sure if your property or company is a member of either organization?  Take these two steps:
  • To confirm OH&LA membership contact OH&LA Member Care Manager Debbie Weiss at (405) 942-6462 or
  • To confirm AH&LA membership, contact Blair Clemente, Senior Manager, Member Services  (202) 289-3177 or @ahla.combclemente
Men wishing to support the mission of OKWIL may also become a member at no cost, so long as their lodging property or company is an AH&LA member. Individuals that are not AH&LA members are eligible to participate in Oklahoma’s chapter activities; however, they are not considered to have member benefits in AH&LA or AH&LA WIL chapters outside the state of Oklahoma.

We have a powerful story to tell and our engagement in matters affecting our industry and our community is what will lead to change. You can make a difference and we hope you will join us to act with one, unified voice.

What's Happening
Social media is visual marketing at its finest. The lodging industry is uniquely positioned to take advantage of social media because everything we do is visual. 80% of guests make booking decisions based on the first impressions of what they see online. Once you can grab someone's initial attention, it's relatively easy to convince them to research your offering further and take action to learn more. When you pair that with the fact that social media is the new TV station, it means that you can easily get your message out to a huge audience on a reasonable budget. In this session, we'll talk about how to use great visual marketing and storytelling to promote your lodging property as a place to stay or to tell your story and how you support the community.
Do you feel like you (or your coworkers) start a million things, but rarely finish them? Many people think the problem is that they aren’t trying hard enough. So they get up earlier, guzzle energy drinks, or hire a life coach. For many, though, nothing works. In this session, based on the book by the same title, you’ll learn something surprising: The most effective strategies to help people complete their goals are not those that pushed people to work harder. The ones that got people to the finish line did just the opposite— they took the pressure off. If you’re tired of being a chronic starter and want to become a consistent finisher, you have two options: You can continue to beat yourself up and try harder, since this time that will work. Or you can come to this session and give yourself the gift of done.
Lodging professionals and industry suppliers are invited to join the OH&LA Board of Directors on April 30 for an OH&LA Member Event to discuss industry issues and formulate association activities. These discussions will be followed by an educational luncheon. This event will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tulsa Downtown. We hope you'll take this opportunity to get more involved in OH&LA and gather to visit with existing and prospective members. Members are invited to stay for the OH&LA Board of Directors meeting to hear about association and lodging industry activities and initiatives.
